She gave what has to be one of my top five opera performances that I have seen live. I do not state this lightly: this is an Iphigénie for the ages, and whenever she was offstage, I longed to see her onstage again.
Soula Parassidis
Hailed as “incandescent” (Boston Globe) and “for the ages” (Schmopera), Greek-Canadian soprano Soula Parassidis is celebrated for her electrifying performances and commanding stage presence on the world’s leading stages. In 2025, she made her long awaited debut as Chrysothemis in Strauss' Elektra alongside Lise Lindstrom at the Arena di Verona Teatro Filarmonico. She also debuted her new album Radio Days, produced by Grammy nominated songwriter Jeff Trott (If it makes you happy, Soak up the sun), and Academy award winning arranger Patrick Warren, which is set to tour in the United States and Europe in 2026.
Other notable debuts include Festival Aix-en-Provence in a Gluck double-bill of Iphigénie en Aulide/Tauride, conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm and directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov—a production she reprised in her Greek National Opera debut in fall 2024 under Michael Hofstetter. That same year, she released her debut album, All is Bright, recorded with the Benevento Filarmonica, and launched her podcast Behind the Curtain.
Her 2023 highlights included starring in Iphigénie en Tauride for the Maria Callas Centennial Celebration at the Olympia City Music Theatre “Maria Callas” in Athens, Greece, under George Petrou and directed by Thanos Papakonstantinou. This success led to acclaimed performances of Iphigénie in Bern, Switzerland, and a globally streamed Boston Baroque production conducted by Martin Pearlman and directed by Mo Zhou.
Additional career highlights include her Asian debut in La Clemenza di Tito with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Handel’s Teseo (Theater an der Wien), Don Giovanni (Guangzhou Opera), the title roles in Barber’s Vanessa and Gräfin in Capriccio (Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole), Elettra in Idomeneo (Teatro Massimo Palermo), Helmwige in Die Walküre (Opéra National de Bordeaux), and Korngold’s Violanta (Teatro Regio Torino). Soula also spent three seasons as an ensemble member of Oper Leipzig, where she performed a wide variety of leading repertoire including Alceste in Admeto Re di Tessaglia, Jenny in Kurt Weill's Mahagonny, Luise Michel in Luigi Nono's Al gran sole carico d'amore, and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, her most performed role to date.
Soula’s concert performances include appearances with the Czech Philharmonic Premieres Festival in Dutilleux's Correspondances, Gewandhaus Leipzig in Giulio Sabino, Berlin Philharmonie in excerpts from Cosi fan tutte, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, and Orchestre National de Capitole de Toulouse in Mahler's 4th Symphony, Attersee Festival in Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, and Berliner Waldbühne in Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras.
A multifaceted artist, Soula is one half of the Living Opera duo, a cross-genre musical act dedicated to expanding the audience for opera through unexpected musical collaborations, distributed through Universal Music.
Soula is a dual citizen of Canada and Greece and currently resides in Chicago and Vienna, Austria. She earned a Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia, and has received generous support from the Canada Council for the Arts for her creative work.
