Canadian bass-baritone Peter Monaghan has captivated audiences across Canada, Europe, and Asia, earning praise for his “lush, full voice that soared through the hall” (Schmopera). In recent seasons, his operatic highlights have included Masetto in Don Giovanni with Edmonton Opera, Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro with Pacific Opera Victoria, and Falke in Die Fledermaus with Edmonton Opera. Engagements in the 2025/26 season will see him as Sacristan in Tosca with Pacific Opera Victoria and the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with the Lethbridge Symphony. He will also perform Messiah with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, Fauré’s Requiem with Vox Musica, and selections of Bach cantatas with the Calgary Bach Choir.
Further operatic credits include Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Vancouver Opera, Colline in La bohème with Pacific Opera Victoria and Opera Kelowna, Zuniga in Carmen with Opera Kelowna, and The Father in Hansel and Gretel with Vancouver Opera. His performances have taken him to stages across Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Cuba, and China.
On the concert stage, Mr. Monaghan has collaborated with major Canadian ensembles including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Okanagan Symphony, and Lethbridge Symphony.
Beyond opera, Mr. Monaghan has showcased his versatility in musical theatre, with standout performances as Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia! and Peter in Company with United Players Vancouver. He was also featured for several years in Yellowpoint’s Christmas Spectacular tour with Razzle Dazzle Productions.
Mr. Monaghan began his musical journey at the University of Lethbridge as a trumpet major before discovering his passion for singing, sparked by an invitation to join the chorus in the University’s production of Die Fledermaus. He went on to complete both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal performance at the University of British Columbia and is an alum of Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program.
